What Is a Crown?
A crown is a tooth-shaped covering that fully replaces the portion of your tooth that sits above the gumline. Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello might recommend a crown to repair:
- Weakened teeth
- Cracked teeth
- Decaying teeth
- Discolored teeth
If you are missing one or multiple teeth, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello might also use crowns to hold a dental bridge in place. This involves Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello bonding your bridge to your permanent teeth on either side of a gap.
What Is the Process for Getting a Cerec Same-Day Crown?
At Howe Dental Associates, Dr. Weiner and Dr. Cabello offer same-day crowns using the CEREC system. CEREC uses state-of-the-art modeling technology to design and mill custom restorations in just one appointment.
First, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello performs an oral exam to determine how much of your tooth structure is remaining. If there’s significant decay or damage, you can benefit from a crown. Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello administers a local anesthetic and prepares your tooth to receive the crown.
After filing down your tooth, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello takes a series of 3D impressions. The doctor uploads your impressions into the CEREC 3D software, which converts the image into a 3D virtual model of your prepared tooth.
After Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello develops a virtual model of your tooth, the doctor inputs it into the milling machine. The milling machine selects a ceramic block that closely mimics the color of your teeth and creates your restoration.
Once your restoration is complete, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello polishes and bonds it to your tooth, a process that takes 45-60 minutes.
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is an oral prosthetic used to fill a gap caused by missing teeth.
If you are missing only one tooth and your surrounding teeth are healthy, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello will attach the bridge to your surrounding teeth. However, if your missing tooth is surrounded by damaged teeth, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello might first install implants. After installing your implants, the doctor can attach your bridge to them using crowns.
What Is the Process for Getting a Cerec Same-Day Bridge?
Getting a CEREC same-day bridge is very similar to getting a CEREC same-day crown.
First, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello performs an oral exam, reviews your health history and discusses your aesthetic goals. If you have healthy teeth and gums, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello can move forward with treatment.
Next, the doctor takes digital impressions of your teeth and uploads them to the CEREC 3D software. Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello uses a virtual model of your teeth to develop a custom bridge. After inputting the necessary information, the CEREC milling machine manufactures a dental bridge on-site.
Once the machine finishes creating your bridge, Dr. Weiner or Dr. Cabello administers a local anesthetic and cements it in place.
Thanks to the CEREC system, you can receive a crown or bridge in Passaic, New Jersey, in just one appointment, as opposed to two or three. Make your appointment with our dentists at Howe Dental Associates today by calling the office at 973-365-1931 or clicking the online booking tool.
